A new month is a new DIY. This time let's look at those gorgeous over priced graphic T’s and how effortless they look. Yes, you can make them too! Probably not in the way you think but it still looks pretty cool so just trust the process.
Remember when you were in art class at school and you learned how to do printing with paint? Well it is something like that but I made it simpler. For this top, of course I upcycled it by cutting an old dress up and making it into a crop top. A quick stitch for the hem at the bottom and it was done. The next part is a lot more fun, trust me.
I went on the internet and found a silhouette of a dragon I liked. I chose a dragon because they look stunning on clothes and most dragon print clothing that is good quality falls far out of my budget and we do not want to feed the money hungry huge corporations that we know are corrupt. So I found a silhouette of a dragon I liked and sent it off to print. For this next part, you can use scissors and be careful but I used a crafting knife and cut out each shape that was printed in black. It is a bit tricky depending on what you use for your silhouette. Mine of course had many small and difficult shapes to cut without ripping into another shape. Eventually all the pieces were out at which stage I taped the sheet of paper onto my newly made crop top. I positioned it properly and centred it where I wanted the print to be.
Now you have a few options here. You can go out and get fabric paint which is probably the smart thing to do because its purpose is for fabric. Or you can do what I did because it was all I had accessible to me at the time, and use acrylic paint. Acrylic paint won’t wash away or anything, it just dries hard over the fabric, giving a different texture to fabric paint so if you don't have a problem with that, use the acrylic. I chose white because I wanted it to stand out against the deep blue fabric and I painted over the stencil I had made, being careful not to push any paint under it so the dragon would appear nicely on the top. After that it was just a matter of waiting until the paint dried before I lifted off the stencil and the top you see in the photo is what was created. It’s an easy hack to uplift any clothes so if you want to try it, happy creating!
