If you’re a fan of The Addams family, I know you have been dying for this one. Since your wretched lives were plagued with the first showing of The Addams Family TV series in 1964 to the first film adaption in 1991, I am sure the collection has stolen your rotten heart.
Tim Burton’s adaptation known as ‘Wednesday’ stars Jenna Ortega who plays Wednesday Addams. Burton has yet again given us an incredibly thrilling fantasy to escape into.
Perfectly portraying Wednesday Addams, Jenna Ortega will have you convinced that she truly is the daughter of Morticia and Gomez. The clever show will have you on the edge of your seat with every twist and turn. Be careful, though, for once you start, you won’t be able to look away. Tim Burton’s artistic talent even incorporates the little tune and two snaps that are The Addams family’s theme song.
This show is almost like a coming of age story, or what would be a coming of age moment for the beyond-her-years Wednesday Addams. The series starts by explaining how no school so far has been able to contain Wednesday until she joins Nevermore Academy. Of course, she believes that this school will be the same but she soon realises how wrong she is. She resents her family for leaving her at the school her mother went to where she feels like she will forever be in Morticia Addams’s shadow.
The school is made for outcasts and people unaccepted by ‘normies’ who are people without supernatural power, and Wednesday still doesn’t fit in. The students are made up of sirens, werewolves, vampires, shapeshifters and anyone with inhuman powers. Her roommate, Enid Sinclair, is full of colour and the complete opposite of Wednesday Addams. She struggles to make friends and form relationships due to her toxic personality and lack of emotion.
‘Wednesday’ takes a sudden turn into the world of crime investigation due to many killings by a mysterious creature, a prophecy made 30 years ago, and the fact that every character is hiding something nefarious. With so many loose ends to this spiderweb, Wednesday has a mystery to unravel. The question is, where does she start?
