Spiderman: across the spider-verse (2023)

Alright let's do this for the first time, but hopefully not the last. His name is Miles Morales. He was bitten by a radioactive spider and became Spiderman and now he is definitely not the only one. If you haven’t watched the first one, Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse (the 2018 film) is the first of the Spider-Verse series and I strongly recommend watching it. If you have watched it, well done to you because now you’re ready to go across the Spider-Verse.

And If you have watched the first one then you know first hand that the sound track was absolutely beautiful and complimentary to the movie. Using the music Miles Morales listens to as his safety net when things get tough is a genius move, especially when the songs are simply so good. I can promise you right now that the sound track in Across the Spider-Verse does not disappoint. It’s so great because it suggests that Miles has some amazing music taste too.

Next, the animation. If you have watched Into the Spider-Verse then you know that this film series has to have different types of animation in order to reflect the different realities. Well Across the Spider-Verse definitely reflected that well. With almost a million different animations of Spiderman representing different realities, Marvel did not miss. And the best part? It is tied to our reality and the Spider-men we grew up with. You’ll see what I mean when you watch it.

For you artistic people with a keen eye, you will know exactly what I mean when I say this movie is a visual masterpiece. There were so many moments while I was watching it where I thought wow that would make a brilliant poster or wallpaper. The animators really knew what they were doing.

If you have watched any Spider-Man movie or show ever then you know that it is every Spiderman’s thing to have a witty sarcastic humour that we all love. This film is no different. It relates to certain memes and makes you laugh at the right time. I would even go as far as to say it is one of the best Spider-Man films so far. Behind every good movie is the actual storyline itself and without giving too much away, it is a perfect continuation of Into the Spider-Verse. Miles is his relatable witty self but this movie takes the identity crisis to a whole new level and the plot is much deeper than one would have originally expected.

This movie is essentially a build up to Beyond the Spider-Verse which will be the next movie in this series. But despite the sole purpose of this film being to build up to the next one, the way it will have you on the edge of your seat and dying to see what happens next is incredible. All I can say is, if you haven’t watched it yet, first of all what are you doing? It has been out for over a month now! And second of all, go to your nearest cinema and watch it because this movie deserves to be on the big screen.
