For those of you who have not watched Only Murderers in the Building, please watch it. It is an amazing drama, comedy and mystery show that will have you hooked from the very first episode.
For those of you who are ready for season 3, let's dive right in.
Mystery after mystery solved but does death ever stop lingering near our 3 beloved detectives?
Probably not.
So as Mabel Mora said at the end of season 2, “you’ve got to be f***ing kidding me” because here we are again with a fresh new murder.
Only this time, our lovely victim known as Ben Glenroy who is played beautifully by Paul Rudd dies not once, but twice.
Season 3 sets off again with the patterns of suspicion against every member of Oliver Putnam’s cast in the very appropriately named play, Death Rattle. But this time, you might have noticed that there is a lot of star power that makes this season very different from the others.
This time not only is there Paul Rudd but also the absolute GOAT (that’s the ‘Greatest Of All Time’ for those of you as old as Charles Hayden Savage) Meryl Streep.
Meryl Streep plays Oliver’s love interest known as Lorreta Durkin. In fact Lorreta introduces season 3 with her backstory, explaining the reason why she wanted to be an actress and how she ended up in Oliver’s play.
Of course us detectives may easily point fingers towards Loretta towards Glenroy’s double murder but come on. You know better now. It is never the obvious suspect.
But enough hints! If you want to know who killed Ben Glenroy two times over, you will just have to keep watching!
Let’s talk about the acting this season. We know there are a lot of strong actors but let's go back to our beloved main characters. Selena Gomez who of course plays Mabel is astounding. This season really explores her relationship with solving murders and how it affects the people around her, especially with Charles and Oliver. Gomez really digs into Mabel’s obsession with murder while keeping her quirky and lovable. It’s a skill that really shows when her character Mabel (who is a millennial) has to interact with Gen Z. It’s brilliant, witty and makes Mabel all the more lovable.
Martin Short plays Oliver Putnam; our outrageously dramatic and stylish joint lead. This season, Putnam wants back in with the theatre world so he put on a play. Opening night immediately got cancelled because the lead of his play, Ben Glenroy, died. So now Putnam is on a mission to make it even better than it ever was before. Martin Short presents Oliver Putnam in such a way that you almost want to feel sorry for him. He put on a play for the first time in years and his lead died. Now he has fallen in love with one of his actors he hired (Loretta) and she might be the killer. Putnam might be suspicious but he is desperate for the murder to not intervene with the play. Martin Short explores this in his character very well as Putnam becomes more than the theatrical man we know. We see layers we have never seen before.
Finally Steve Martin, also known as Charles in our little murder group, also dug into his character as an individual more this season. As an audience we get to see how Charles is as an actor in Oliver's play. We know that Charles already has an endless list of issues but Steve Martin really dives into the character more.
Season 3 more than anything looks into the trio more individually and unravels their layers before putting them back together again. Our main three do it so well and our guest stars, as always, put on a stunning performance.
If you do want to know who killed Ben Glenroy twice, you better get to watching because Season 3 is ready and waiting for you.
