Lupin is a French Netflix series about a man called Assane Diop who is out for revenge in the style of his favourite book character, Arsène Lupin Gentleman Thief.
Assane Diop wants to avenge his father, Babakar Diop who was wrongfully accused of stealing a diamond necklace and thrown into prison. From there Babakar committed suicide when Assane was just a child. Ever since, Assane has been wanting revenge.
I watched the show in English Dub so it does throw you off a little bit when the lip syncing doesn't line up quite so well.

However, the plot is great. It starts with a heist where Assane plans to steal the necklace that got his father in jail in the first place. The necklace belongs to a rich family that Babakar used to work with and the ‘head’ of the family is the one who framed Babakar. The series continues with multiple disguises, escapes, kidnappings and more. Each step of Assanes' plan puts anyone close to him in danger. It’s no surprise that the plot of the show has you hooked with each twist, turn and cliff hanger.

There is crime, thriller, action and mystery and the story line really pulls through. Although the side plot with the detectives trying to track down Assane could use a little work. Firstly, the disguises are not as transforming as the detectives pretend they are. Assane disguises himself to look a lot older than he actually is in different ways. But whether he is wearing thicker eyebrows or a massive beard, he just looks like the same person in a bad costume. It makes it especially hard to believe that the detectives haven’t immediately noticed that all of these disguises are the same person. Even without the disguises, or should I say bad costumes, this side plot just doesn’t hit. Aside from one detective who gets too close to the case, the rest of the characters feel more like a nuisance than anything.
If you can focus on the main plot and ignore the rest of it then I definitely suggest this show and better yet, Season 3 just came out on the 5th of October. If this doesn’t sound like your vibe, I recommend that you just read the book, Arsène Lupin Gentleman Thief.
