Netflix has done it again and given us anime lovers the most beautiful anime film we could ever watch.
While the story line is magical and fun, every frame of the entire movie is absolute artwork. Each still looks like a carefully painted digital masterpiece ready to be hung on a wall. There is a clear difference between the old classic anime’s and Bubble’s animation. Every scene is transporting and mesmerizing. To all you weebs who love the art of anime, you will adore Bubble. That is a promise. The film is amazing solely through the art and I haven’t even begun talking about the story line yet!
Bubble is about the world being infested with mysterious bubbles that have some sort of power which is dangerous to humans and almost destroyed Tokyo. When the bubbles over the rest of the world died down, a large bubble remained over Tokyo and changed how gravity worked there. A few orphans like to do parkour battles there.
The film’s only flaw is it doesn’t explain enough context behind these bubbles which would be useful because one of it’s main characters are made of these bubbles. One of the orphans called Hibiki nearly drowned from one of the battles but a bubble magically formed into a girl he named Uta, and saved his life. The story makes a lot of references to The Little Mermaid (the original tale) because Uta came out of her world to be with her Prince (Hibiki) even though she knows she doesn’t belong there.
The story is not overly romantic, it is a sweet and adventurous tale that can be a little bit dark at some points. Readers, without saying too much, it is a must watch so add it to your anime list and get ready to be taken away into a world of beauty and chaos. What's not to love?
