When Boris Johnson and Priti Patel were predicted to come to Brunel University for dinner, the LGBTQ+ society chose to protest for their latest homophobic and racist decisions.

Pipa, a 20 year old Brunel planetary health student from Derbyshire was one of the protestors. She stated that she was there to protest “against Priti Patel and her nationality of boarders bill but also the police crimes and the police bill which criminalises protests. I am also protesting Boris because I don’t want him to be Prime Minister. He is totally inadequate in every way.”

Priti Patel’s nationality of borders bill means that people who migrate to the UK in search of asylum will be penalised. Multiple students who heard the rumours of Priti Patel showing up to Brunel University with Boris Johnson are protesting mainly against this.

Sarah, a 20 year old Westminster student also from Derbyshire said “I’m here because I found out Boris Johnson and Priti Patel are going to be here. I just think it's kind of ironic how they are coming here for dinner and just ignore everything and ignore the fact that there are international students here. They are basically trying to criminalise migration, especially Priti. I just think they need to see their hypocrisy so hopefully with us being out here, if they actually turn up then hopefully they’ll see that.”

Billy Timimi, a Brunel computer science student from France wanted to protest because “Boris Johnson is coming and we think he is racist. We think he is sexist. We think he has overseen the deaths of thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people during the Covid pandemic and we think that he has a real nerve to show his face.”

Many citizens agree that Boris Johnson did not deal with the pandemic as well as he could have. Some protesters have very strong views on his leadership skills.
